About
Musical Philanthropy
As musicians, or just artists in general, we seek to bring people together to show our passions for the art we love. When it is real and unfiltered, people know it is genuine. I know for myself I write music as a release for the struggles and trials I have gone through in my life. I also write music that is inspired by the beauty of the world around me. I often couple my music with beautiful imagery. I live in the most beautiful place on the planet in Alaska. It reminds me there is always a balance to life, that no matter how incredibly difficult life’s challenges can be, the beauty of what is all around me is there to bring me back around. It reminds me that nothing will ever be so bad or so good. Music has inspired me to unleash its true power. It’s my idea that we can take musical compositions and acts to a higher level of humanity. Like music itself, it can be completely unique to the musicians and artists that create the music themselves. One evening I was sitting on the couch as I was putting together some music while I was watching a war in Syria unfold in front of me. I sat there and imagined the incredible and devastating position these people were in. How was I able to be so relaxed on my couch, doing what I loved most in writing music, while people a world away were just hoping to survive another night of being bombed. Another night with no water, no food, and shelter. The idea of playing music is probably the last thing you think about in that circumstance. I imagined a day when the war ends and the people who made it through their war were able to play and listen to music once again. I thought why couldn’t I create something that would benefit and inspire people devastated by war to see the beauty in the world once again. This was when I came up with the idea of musical philanthropy.
My mind was off to the races. What are my true passions in life. What causes and ideas are most important to me. What ideas would bring people together and not drive them apart. I must have thought of a hundred causes I would love to support. It was very difficult to ground myself in realty as I started to want to help everything and everyone. We know that is just not possible. But we can start with one idea at a time, in fact if each musician has just one idea or cause, the results would be truly spectacular.
